Domestic EPC
What Is a Domestic EPC?
A legal document that certifies a home’s energy efficiency is called a Domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). It provides your home a rating from A (extremely efficient) to G (very inefficient). It also has recommendations on how to improve energy performance and save on your bills.
Having a valid EPC is a requirement if your home is going to be built, sold, or rented in the UK. EPCs occur in property transactions and help potential buyers or tenants understand what the running costs will be for a property.

Why Is a Domestic EPC Important?
A Domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is more than a bit of paper. It provides you and others with a clear picture of how much energy your home uses and how expensive it is to heat and power.
When your property is energy efficient, it is not only better for the environment, but also better for your finances. Higher EPC-rated properties typically attract more interest and can sell or rent faster. Energy-conscious buyers and tenants typically prefer homes that are well-insulated, have efficient systems, and have low utility costs.
Landlords need to meet a minimum legal standard. In most situations, renting a house with an EPC rating lower than E has been prohibited from April 2020. As a result, maintaining compliance greatly benefits from employing an appropriate EPC assessment.

Who Needs a Domestic EPC?
If you intend to build, sell, or rent out your house, you will need our Domestic EPC. Obtaining an EPC might help you better understand the energy efficiency of your house, even if you aren’t planning to sell immediately.
A valid EPC is also required of homeowners who wish to apply for green energy incentives or funding programmes. EPCs are used by housing associations and local authorities to evaluate houses for energy upgrades.

What Happens During the EPC Assessment?
Our experience
Our experienced Domestic Energy Assessor carries out the EPC assessment. It is a quick and non-invasive process that typically takes 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the size of your property
The assessor looks
The assessor looks at a range of important features of your home during the assessment, such as double glazing, lighting, heating systems, insulation levels, and wall and roof construction. Moreover, the assessor may take measurements and will usually take a few photos, but they will not cause any damage to the property or its contents in any way.
EPC Report
The EPC Report is generated by inputting all of the information gathered into government-approved programmes, which generate your energy efficiency grade.

What’s Included in the EPC Report?
We provide an EPC report that contains your current energy performance rating and your potential rating, provided you undertake the improvements recommended. It also provides a detailed breakdown of how your energy use, carbon dioxide emissions, and heating costs are derived.
Most importantly, it also provides you with recommendations to improve your energy efficiency, like changing your light bulbs to energy-efficient light bulbs and adding loft insulation or a new boiler system.
With our EPC report, you will receive information on both your estimated cost of improvement and your potential annual savings from improvements you undertake. This will help you make an informed plan of improvements over time that works with your budget.
How Long Does a Domestic EPC Last?
The validity of a domestic EPC is ten years from the date of issuance. However, it’s a good idea to get a fresh EPC if you make major improvements to your property, such as adding insulation, replacing windows, or installing a new heating system.
After making renovations, updating your EPC can demonstrate to prospective renters or buyers how energy-efficient your house has become, increasing its market value.

Benefits of Getting a Domestic EPC
There are several benefits of getting a Domestic EPC.
- First, this ensures that you are compliant with UK property law, and if you did need to sell or rent your home, the documentation is available to use. If you do not have it, there could be penalties, delays, or difficulties.
- Second, it helps lower your energy bills at home. Overall, small levels of improvement will have a cumulative impact and lead to delivering real savings over a long period of time. A Domestic EPC Report will inform you of changes you can make that are cost-effective and will have a long-term impact.
- Finally, it increases the value of your home. Energy-efficient homes are in higher demand than other homes, which will increase the value and help in selling the house. A better EPC rating will be a competitive advantage in the housing market.
