Airtightness Testing

The Air Permeability Testing Process
Preparation:

Blower Door Installation:
A blower door, which consists of a fan mounted in a temporary frame with a flexible panel, is installed in an external doorway of the building. The fan is used to create a pressure difference between the inside and outside of the building.

The Air Permeability Testing Process
Pressure Differential Testing: The blower door fan is activated to either pressurize or depressurize the building. Measurements are taken to determine the airflow through the fan and the pressure difference across the building envelope. This data is used to calculate the air permeability of the building.
Analysis and Reporting: The results of the air permeability test are analysed, and a report is provided to the building owner or project team. The report includes information on the air permeability rate, areas of air leakage, and recommendations for improving airtightness.

Seal Gaps and Cracks
Identify and seal any gaps, cracks, or openings in the building envelope using appropriate sealants, tapes, or gaskets. This includes sealing around windows and doors, as well as penetrations for pipes, cables, and vents.

Insulation
Ensure that the building is properly insulated to minimize heat transfer and reduce the potential for air leakage. Insulation materials should be installed correctly and in accordance with building regulations and manufacturer guidelines.
